Just
in
Time Parenting: Reliable Resource for Raising Children

Iowa State University
Extension is partnering with other extension programs across the
country to offer Iowans a united parenting research Web site
entitled Just in Time Parenting, www.extension.org/parenting.
“The site was created in 2008 to marshal the resources of the land
grant universities to help parents access high quality, practical
information on parenting,” said Kim Greder, ISU Extension family life
sate program specialist.
The Web site provides parents a continually updated source of
research-based information about raising kids from infants through the
teenage years.
“There is a lot of information on the Internet, and it’s hard to know
what is good information and which sites to trust,” said Greder. “This
Web site was created by extension specialists across the country,
people with academic backgrounds related to parenting who have worked
with parents. It’s bringing the best of the land grant system to people
via the Web.”
Just in Time Parenting gives information through a variety of methods
including newsletters, podcasts, short videos, other publications and
through "frequentlly asked questions" (FAQ) based on questions
submitted to the Web site. Signing up for the online parenting
newsletters just became available in February 2010. Additionally,
feature articles are provided on current issues.
“Parents can sign up for newsletters based on the age of their infant
or toddler that is delivered to their email monthly,” said
Greder. “The newsletters provide practical, research based
information on common parenting questions and concerns.”
The Web site allows parents to choose which methods of communication
they want to use. This tailoring of information is in the goal of
making the resource as effective and effortless as possible.
