Smoke Free Air Act, New Iowa Sales Tax Begin Today
Posted 1 July 2008
Today, Tuesday, July 1, marks the date that the Iowa Smoke Free Air Act and changes in the state's Sales Tax Code go into effect.

The Iowa Smoke Free Air Act requires 'no smoking' signs to be posted at every entrance to a public place and outdoor area where smoking is not allowed. Details of the act can be found at www.IowaSmokefreeAir.gov

Changes in the tax code mean school district local option sales taxes will now be collected at the state level, changing Iowa's sales tax from 5 to 6%. Additional information about the change can be found at www.state.ia.us/tax
